Let’s face it, everyone goes through times in their life when it seems that the Universe has it out for you. You’re dealing with one crisis after another and things like optimism or gratitude are simply not available to you. I have absolutely experienced my share of turmoil, including a rare cancer diagnosis, witnessing both of the World Trade Towers collapse from the rooftop of the building where I lived in the West Village on 9/11 and the complete annihilation of my life from alcohol and drugs 20 years ago. Well, if I can heal and transcend such enormous trauma and now lead an abundant and grace-filled life I know that you can too.
When I was a kid I never could have imagined that we could actually learn to guide and nurture our patterns of thought. But, the way you react to any given situation has been repeated hundreds or thousands of times. It has become a routine for you which conditions you to be and react a certain way. And that is the challenge for so many people that feel trapped in anxiety, overwhelm or addiction. You can’t imagine your life feeling or looking another way because your sense of self-worth is so low. Over the past 20 years I have cultivated deep faith that God/the Universe always has my back. I have developed a robust daily regime of self-care, which begins with prayer, reading daily reflections, journaling and writing a Gratitude List. By becoming disciplined with meditation and tending to the wellness of my thoughts, I have trained my brain to guide me into every experience with an energy of enthusiasm.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes to let folks know about you and what you do.
Like many people, I understand deeply that everything is energy; every touch we feel, every bite we taste, every word we speak, every thought we think, movement we make and what we choose to do with our time. They all create vibrations and the quality of those vibrations create the quality of the results in our lives. If we are random and careless with the intake of food, beverage, environment, social network, thoughts, time and energy we will most likely not be very satisfied with the outcome of what we are creating in our lives. I began to create my business, Divine Spark Coaching, about 7 1/2 years ago. In the autumn of 2016 I received a cancer diagnosis for EHE, a very rare form of vascular cancer that was localized in my liver. At that time, I was sober for 12 years, newly marriedand thriving in my life. But, I was thrust into a very dark night of the soul for about 4 months, when my doctor at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in NYC, said that the cancer was inoperable and untreatable. So, I immediately sought forms of alternative healing and was attracted to the idea of studying them all, as they brought me great comfort. Craniosacral therapy and Sacred Geometry were the first trainings I put into my Spiritual Toolbox. Then, I certified as a Life Mastery Consultant with the Brave Thinking Institute while, also, diving into the teachings of Dr. Joe Dispenza and Tony Robbins. I was clearly out of the dark night of the soul and was thriving again in my life. I was blessed to work with quite a few life coaching clients and had a profound awareness in the fall of 2017; the clients who worked with me were, indeed, getting satisfying results with my coaching work, but, I could feel and tell that there were aspects of my clients experience that coaching couldn’t touch. I was frustrated because I wasn’t able figure out why or what the solution would be. Then, I heard about Marisa Peer and RTT hypnotherapy. I watched her Ted Talk video and investigated what hypnotherapy is and what it isn’t. Then, a very loud voice in my heart called out, “This is it, Charles! This is what you’ve been wanting to add to your Spiritual Toolbox that can bridge the gap between your clients’ conscious and subconscious minds.”
So, shortly after studying with Marisa in London I created a 3-month customized combination of Life Coaching and RTT program for my clients. Immediately the results that my clients received were much deeper and grounded in emotional healing than coaching alone could touch. So, in the world of branding, I am a HypnoCoach and It truly is a blessing to facilitate the release of trauma for my clients that then leads to a Divine Alignment internally within them. I now have 3, 6, 9 and 12-month customized HypnoCoaching programs that serve my clients extraordinarily either in person or virtually. If someone had told me 8 years ago, “Hey, Charles, you’re going to be diagnosed with cancer, but you’re going to become an international mogul, author, and public speaker too!” I never would’ve believed them. I am proud and overflowing with gratitude to be a hardworking man full of passion, integrity and expert skills that I bring to serve and support my clientele.
This is such a great question and I could probably answer at least 20 of them. Narrowing it down to my top 3 most important is tough, but here’s my list;
1) A disciplined work ethic, which includes being willing to go the extra mile, ask tough questions of yourself and others and always remaining teachable. I mean, you cannot teach or lead in a field that you’ve not become an expert at yourself already.
2) A positive mindset and an attitude of gratitude. This does not mean that you deceive yourself when you’re actually at your breaking point, but by having an energy of enthusiasm you develop a reputation as a leader who guides others with unstoppable integrity.
3) Honesty and integrity are foundational qualities that are essential for any successful business or relationship to thrive. Without this, your vision for the future will stagnate and will not be able to stretch the limits of your imagination. If you or anyone on your team are not 100% trustworthy, cracks will eventually cause the foundation of what you’re creating to fall apart.
My parents were an amazingly dynamic duo who loved each other intensely. My parents’ first meeting took place at a roller skating rink in Birmingham, AL when she was 15 and he was 18 years old. He was hanging out with a couple other guys when he noticed this lovely young lady. She was clipping her skates onto the bottom of her shoes and started to lose her balance. Little did she know, but just as she was about to stumble to the floor, he dashed over and, literally, swept her off her feet and kept her from falling. They proceeded to skate several laps around the rink, arm in arm. and the rest, as they say, is history.
There were many impactful things that my parents imparted to me over the years, but one of the top things was their ability and comfort in openly demonstrating love and affection and their kindness towards others. At home in the evenings, they would often sit facing each other on the sofa and give each other a foot massage or sometimes, as I was passing by the kitchen on my way to practice the piano, they’d be in an embrace and smooching. Never was there an abrupt halt to their affection, as if to give me the message that this was awkward or naughty. Rather, their genuine care and warmth was something that attracted friends to them and my parents were always there to cheer me on in everything I did. I will always cherish making my Broadway debut in 1993 at the Neil Simon Theatre in Cyrano- the Musical. My folks were right there cheering on the whole show and they could get you to feel like you could do anything! Their kindheartedness blessed so many people and helped me to believe that I could truly achieve anything I put my heart into.
